World We Dare to Imagine Pt. 3

I grew up with an abundance of privileges and opportunities. I was raised by a father who taught me I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. I recognize how rare this is especially given my Indian cultural background. That is where my organization, EmpowerHer, comes in. EmpowerHer is fundamentally aimed at changing the systematic negative views of Indian women. In Indian culture, women are definitively inferior to men. They are expected to obey their husbands and have little freedom or free will. In traditional Indian families, women do not have a say in their future as their husband is selected for them, and they are expected to stay home and raise the kids and do housework. This fundamental lack of respect and inferiority that Indian women experience contributes to deeper issues throughout the country, such as domestic abuse, sexual assault, prostitution, teenage pregnancy, homelessness, and much more. EmpowerHer's mission is to change the way that women are viewed in Indian...

World We Dare to Imagine Pt. 1

When I read this quote, my immediate thought was that we all have a social responsibility to each other. Some of us are blessed to be born into a world with more than enough essential resources and necessities to survive. On top of that, we have opportunities, education, fun, hobbies, passions, and so many other privileges. However, some are born into a reality where they fight daily to survive. We are all on this planet together but live drastically different lives. We must use our privilege to create a better world for all of us. The way I would like to be a better global citizen is to first start by learning and l...

Random Post 2: The Hunger Games and 2020

The Hunger Games has been some of my favorite movies for a long time now. I do not want to admit how many times I have seen them. All you need to know is that I pretty much have the script memorized. It is possible that during Covid, I watched them on a loop as I recovered from an injury. As I was watching, I started to notice a suspicious similarity between the events in the movies and the events of 2020. One similarity is the theme of social and economic inequality. In The Hunger Games , the people of the districts are oppressed and impoverished, while the ruling elite in the Capitol live in luxury. In 2020, the Black Lives Matter protests emphasized the injustice and systematic racism that exists in this country. People took to the streets and risked their lives to fight for what they believed in. Citizens all over the country stood up and showed up for this cause. In The Hunger Games, similar activism and the fight against injustice took place. Citizens began to fight against the o...
