World We Dare to Imagine Pt. 3

I grew up with an abundance of privileges and opportunities. I was raised by a father who taught me I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. I recognize how rare this is especially given my Indian cultural background. That is where my organization, EmpowerHer, comes in. EmpowerHer is fundamentally aimed at changing the systematic negative views of Indian women. In Indian culture, women are definitively inferior to men. They are expected to obey their husbands and have little freedom or free will. In traditional Indian families, women do not have a say in their future as their husband is selected for them, and they are expected to stay home and raise the kids and do housework. This fundamental lack of respect and inferiority that Indian women experience contributes to deeper issues throughout the country, such as domestic abuse, sexual assault, prostitution, teenage pregnancy, homelessness, and much more. EmpowerHer's mission is to change the way that women are viewed in Indian...

World We Dare to Imagine Pt. 1

When I read this quote, my immediate thought was that we all have a social responsibility to each other. Some of us are blessed to be born into a world with more than enough essential resources and necessities to survive. On top of that, we have opportunities, education, fun, hobbies, passions, and so many other privileges. However, some are born into a reality where they fight daily to survive. They are born into worlds without basic rights, freedoms, or opportunities.  Those of us born with privilege need to recognize what we have and the blessings we have been afforded. However, it is not enough to recognize and be thankful for what we have. We need to adopt the mentality that it is all of our job to fight for those who might not have a voice but need help. We are all on this planet together but live drastically different lives. We must use our privilege to create a better world for all of us. The way I would like to be a better global citizen is to first start by learning and l...

Random Post 2: The Hunger Games and 2020

The Hunger Games has been some of my favorite movies for a long time now. I do not want to admit how many times I have seen them. All you need to know is that I pretty much have the script memorized. It is possible that during Covid, I watched them on a loop as I recovered from an injury. As I was watching, I started to notice a suspicious similarity between the events in the movies and the events of 2020. One similarity is the theme of social and economic inequality. In The Hunger Games , the people of the districts are oppressed and impoverished, while the ruling elite in the Capitol live in luxury. In 2020, the Black Lives Matter protests emphasized the injustice and systematic racism that exists in this country. People took to the streets and risked their lives to fight for what they believed in. Citizens all over the country stood up and showed up for this cause. In The Hunger Games, similar activism and the fight against injustice took place. Citizens began to fight against the o...

Book 2 Post 2

For Book 2 I chose to read  Invisible No More: Police Violence Against Black Women and Women of Color. I was originally attracted to this book because police brutality against people of color has been a center-stage issue recently. There has been a lot of light on cases of blatant police brutality against people of color. The cases in the news are shocking. It is hard to understand how this could happen in what we think to be an advanced, modernized and progressed society. It is equally hard to understand how these cases could happen more than once. The fact that a horrible police brutality injustice occurred once and immediate change wasn't made is hard to understand.  I liked this book because of its focus on women of color. In the media and even television and movies there is a heavy focus on police brutality against men. I liked that Ritchie forced readers to pay attention to the fact that women of color are disproportionally affected by police brutality. She...

Investment Proposal Final

To:  Clark Hansen, CEO of AMDP From:  Ariya Nathu, Research and Development Analyst for AMDP Date:  March 10 th , 2023  Subject:  Investment Proposal of Lush Ltd.    After considerable research and analysis, I recommend that AMDP  does not invest  in Lush Ltd. Lush is a cosmetics company that continuously presents themselves as a socially responsible and environmentally friendly business. However, after further investigation, they are not transparent or as dedicated to their standards as they advertise. The company does not align with AMDP standards.      I will first highlight the guidelines that AMDP holds itself to. I will then present Lush’s background, financials, and claims about their sustainable and ethical standards. I will provide two expert sources that uncover the reality of Lush’s environmental and socially responsible practices. Finally, I will present my final recommendation.      AMDP Guide...

Book 2 Post 1

For Book 2 I chose to read Invisible No More: Police Violence Against Black Women and Women of Color. I wanted to read this book because the issue of police violence has been a pressing concern recently. I believe there is blatant injustice in this country when it comes to police violence and people of color. However, the issue of women and police violence has another layer to it that is not often discussed. That is why this book stood out to me. Police violence on its own is not discussed as openly and honestly as it should be. Despite the fact that there are clear and systematic issues with the police system and people of color, excuses are still made and the issues are not discussed in a candid manner. We continuously let these injustices go and watch as people die due to the injustice of police brutality. This book explores those issues and demands that people pay attention to and talk about what is happening around us. I have not gotten very far in the book so far, but I like...
